Yard Signs & Custom Lawn Signs: How To Maximize Your Local Business Exposure
One of the things we hear pretty consistently at JC Pro Design is “what is the best way to advertise my small business?”. And while paid advertising and search engine optimization can do most of the heavy lifting for lead generation, one particularly useful way to get the word out about your products and services is through lawn and yard signs.
That’s right! Lawn signs can be an affordable and effective way to enhance your business’ local visibility. In this post, we’ll try to answer some of the most common questions we get about custom yard signs.
What is a yard sign?
Yard signs and custom lawn signs are a common sight on many front lawns, common areas of businesses and along streets. They’re mainly used for advertising, political campaigns and real estate. Beyond these, they can also help to make announcements, guide people to events like weddings and yard sales, and as informational pointers.
Yard signs are available in either single or double sided formats, and can be cut to various shapes.
How can you target the right audience with yard sign printing?
Printing a yard sign is an affordable and impactful way to connect with potential customers for your business. These signs are cost efficient, and a great method for drawing attention with minimal effort. Plus their straightforward setup allows you to place them in areas with high visibility.
Whether your goal is to promote a product or a service, increase foot traffic to your store, back a political candidate, advertise a property for sale, or direct people to a fundraiser or event, yard signs are a great medium to spread your message.
How long do yard signs typically last outdoors?
Yard signs can be made from corrugated plastic, which typically lasts up to two years when outdoors. This of course depends on the conditions they’re exposed to such as wind and direct sunlight. But with proper care they can remain structurally sound and vibrant for a long time.
What are the standard sizes for yard signs, and can I order custom sizes?
Custom printed yard signs come in a range of standard sizes, with the most common being 24×18, 24″x24″, 18″x24″ or 12″x18″. At JC Pro Design, we find these sizes are popular because they’re easy to read from a distance. However, the size you pick should complement the complexity of your design and the overall amount of text.
We can absolutely create custom sizes for yard signs, so if your message needs a unique dimension or shape, we’ll work with you to make sure it’s designed and printed to your specifications.
How should I design my yard sign for maximum visibility and impact?
Think of your outdoor yard sign like a mini billboard. What would catch your attention? We recommend using a typeface that’s easy to read from a distance, and high contrast colors to make sure the text stands out. It’s also important to keep the overall design simple. Focus on a clear and concise message and call to action.
What kind of stakes or holders are available, and how do I install them?
There are quite a few stakes and holders out there to choose from, but the most common is an aluminum “h” stake. These are the most cost effective, and priced at $1.50 each. There are more sturdy and durable options, however, which can range in price from $10 to $75 each. The basic stakes are simply pushed into the ground.
Is there a minimum order quantity for custom yard signs?
We don’t have a minimum order quantity, but we do give price breaks starting at 10 signs. If you’re interested in having JC Pro Design create custom signs for your business or group, contact us today!
How quickly can I get my yard signs after placing an order? Is rush production available?
We’ll typically design and print your signs within 7 to 10 days. For rush orders, extra charges may apply depending on quantities and our capabilities.
What file formats are accepted for the design? Do you offer design services?
Design files always turn out the best when they’re vector formats. This means a type of digital file that maintains quality at any size, including AI, EPS and SVG. If you need help with design, we can absolutely consult with you to get you the perfectly designed sign. Our design services are an extra charge, so please contact us to learn more.
How are yard signs typically priced?
We price our custom lawn signs based on quantity, and whether it’s a single or double sided print.
Can I get a proof or sample of my yard sign before the full order is printed?
Yes! We always send a proof before we start producing the signs, so you can be sure the final product is as close to your vision as possible. We can make samples as well, which are billed at single piece pricing.

Are there any local regulations or restrictions on placing yard signs in certain areas?
To get up to date information on yard sign regulations in Salt Lake County, contact the zoning office for the county, or your particular city or town. Municipalities have different regulations and restrictions when it comes to the placement of signs, especially on public property and rights of way. These restrictions may also apply to the size and content of the signs.
How do I clean and maintain my yard signs to ensure they look their best for as long as possible?
Regular cleaning is key to extending your signs’ lifespan and keeping them looking fresh. Gently wipe them down with a microfiber cloth and mild soap and water. Don’t use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners as they can scratch the surface of the sign. Rinse thoroughly and allow to air dry. Store the signs in a cool, dry place, and lay them flat to avoid warping. If you have multiple signs, you can place a piece of wax paper in between them to prevent the signs from sticking.
What if I’m not satisfied with the quality of the yard signs I receive?
At JC Pro Design in Salt Lake, we pride ourselves on quality and customer satisfaction. That means we inspect everything we make before it leaves our facility. So if it doesn’t meet our own quality standards, we’ll replace them and work with you to make sure you’re completely satisfied.
